On Tuesday, a judge sentenced former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky to 30-60 years in prison. Sandusky had previously been convicted on dozens of charges related to his sexual abuse of 10 young boys.
Prior to the sentencing, Sandusky read a jailhouse statement on Monday stating his innocence and claiming that he’s the victim of a conspiracy that was played by Penn State’s Com Radio.
At the sentencing hearing, Victim 6 addressed the judge while crying.
Through the storm, I have cried out to Jesus for help. Today I can say for sure I will travel down this road to healing with Jesus holding my hand. [6 ABC]
Sandusky also spoke at the hearing. Apparently he compared his time in jail to a football game and used a metaphor about being kissed by dogs.
Sandusky’s appearance has changed dramatically since his conviction. He’s lost a considerable amount of weight. Here you can see him walking from the courthouse to a patrol car after his sentencing.
Penn State President Rodney Erickson issued a written statement after the hearing.
Our thoughts today, as they have been for the last year, go out to the victims of Jerry Sandusky’s abuse. While today’s sentence cannot erase what has happened, hopefully it will provide comfort to those affected by these horrible events and help them continue down the road to recovery.
