Richard Ben Cramer, widely regarded as one of the best political correspondents of his time, died Monday of cancer. The journalist won a Pulitzer in 1979, while working for the Philadelphia Inquirer, for his dispatches from a then-turbulent Middle East. He went on to write for a variety of publications, but earned perhaps his most praise for the book What It Takes: The Way to the White House, a masterly account of the 1988 presidential race that is regarded as one of the best political books ever.
