Bill Greenlee Taking on Fake Tanning Industry with New Bill
I already hear the overwrought indignation coming from the Jersey Shore. Aggressively anti-tanning Councilman Bill Greenlee is proposing a bill to prevent young folks from getting into the booth. He said he was particularly disturbed earlier this year when he found out a Nutley, NJ woman took her 6-year-old into a tanning salon with her. (She denies she brought her kid into the booth itself, though the fair-skinned redhead did have an unexpected tan the day the incident was discovered.) Frankly, I’m more disturbed by this image of her mom.
But Greenlee’s bill aims to protect minors, so let’s move on. “They think this makes them look better, when they go to a prom or some event. And often times they get over exposed to it, because they do it quickly,” Greenlee said. What he probably meant was: “They think this makes them look better, when they go to a prom or some event. But actually they look awful.”
The legislation would mandate that minors wishing to go Oompa-Loompa be accompanied by adults; for anybody under 14 receive doctor’s permission; and for tanning salons to inform customers of health risks associated with the practice. Check back in to see how Big Tanning responds. [CBS 3]
