What’s With the Guy in the Ku Klux Klan Outfit on Chestnut Street?

A colleague snapped this photo during her lunch break today. In case you have to squint to see the sign, it reads:

THE KKK
KILLED
3,446 BLACKS IN 86 YEARS.
BLACK ON BLACK MURDERS
SURPASS THAT NUMBER
EVERY 6 MONTHS.

So is this some crazy black guy trying make a point about black on black crime in Philadelphia? Or is this some crazy KKK dude trying to say that the KKK isn’t really that bad?

Philadelphia Councilman Curtis Jones sent a photo out via Twitter that seems to put this a little more in context:

UPDATE: Alex Wigglesworth from the Metro newspaper identified the hooded man as “Sixx King” (we’re pretty sure that’s a pseudonym) and says that he is, in fact, black. Apparently, some passersby do not get the point of his protest. “You’ll burn soon enough,” said one. [Metro]
