Former Boxing Champ Larry Holmes Recovering After Hospitalization

He once went toe-to-toe with Muhammad Ali, but these days former heavyweight champ Larry Holmes can be flattened by letting his blood sugar drift too high: The champ was hospitalized Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem Township,  and went home on Thursday.

“My blood sugar popped up on me,” said Holmes, 63. “I’m all right now. I feel good. I never had anything like this happen before, but it runs in my family.”

Holmes, who grew up in Easton and was heavyweight champ from 1978 to 1985, said he’s taking medication and following doctors’ instructions.

“I have to lose some weight and eat the right foods,” he said. “I’ll take my medication and watch my sugar level and I’ll be good.”

He’ll beat this illness like he beat Butterbean, right?
