Sixers to Doug Collins: Um, Please Go Away

Apparently, Doug Collins is not wanted in South Philly.

According to multiple league sources, the 76ers organization privately hopes that coach Doug Collins decides not to return for the 2013-14 season and, regardless of his decision, it does not intend to extend his contract – which has one year remaining.

The Inquirer, for its part, has even gamed out some alternative scenarios for Collins, should he choose to bounce.

His son, Chris, recently was hired as basketball coach at Northwestern University in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Ill., and the father could easily transfer his passion to attending some of those games. That would also provide a painless transition for the Sixers.

See, Doug? Painless. The Sixers could always, you know, fire him. But having just signed him to an extension in October, that might be a little embarrassing. Either way, the suspense is on: Collins has never lasted more than three years with anyone team, and the ’13-’14 season would break the record. Stay tuned! [Inquirer]
