Boy Scouts Leaving Philly As Bitter Feud With City Has Ended

For about five years now, the city’s been telling the Boy Scouts it couldn’t keep staying rent-free in public property if it didn’t adhere to Philly’s anti-discrimination laws. (Because of the whole ‘no gay people’ thing, which it seems to be phasing out.) The Boy Scouts, meanwhile, recently won a court case preserving their right to stay on the HQ it built for itself on city-owned land in 1928. Well, that’s all over now as the Scouts have agreed to pack up and move out of their Logan Square Headquarters by June 30th. In exchange, the city will pay them $825,000 for improvements they’ve made to the site over the past 80 years. [NBC 10]
