Chris Christie Appoints NJ AG Jeff Chiesa for Interim Senate Seat

After all the debate about whether and when Chris Christie would hold a special election for a U.S. Senator to replace the late Frank Lautenberg, the actual appointment of his successor seems somehow less exciting. And indeed, his appointment of low-profile Republican state Attorney General Jeff Chiesa, with whom he’s been friends for 20 years, is not exactly a shocker. Chiesa will not run in the controversial October special election, which gives him just a few months to get anything done. When asked about his position on immigration–one issue on which he could cast an important vote–he said he was concerned above all about border security. [Washington Post]
