Maybe The FBI Will Find Jimmy Hoffa This Time*

Remember Jimmy Hoffa? Of course you don’t! The last time the Teamster leader/mobster crony was seen alive—by somebody not stuffing him into the trunk of a car, presumably—it was 1975, and disco still didn’t have a firm foothold on the American psyche yet. Then he disappeared. At this point, he’s been famous for being an unsolved mystery far longer than he was famous for being a labor leader.

Perhaps the mystery is closer to being solved. CNN reports:

The FBI — working on information from an aging reputed mobster — began digging in the waist-high grass of a Detroit-area field Monday in yet another search for the remains of former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa, according to a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the investigation.

Agents were executing a search warrant for a field in Oakland Township, north of Detroit, based in part on information provided by alleged mobster Tony Zerilli.

CNN adds:

Zerilli, 85, told Detroit television station WDIV in February that he knew the location of the remains, and his lawyer, David Chasnick, said Zerilli was “thrilled” that investigators were acting on the information.

“This has finally come to an end. It has been an arduous project to get to this point,” Chasnick said. “Hoffa’s body is somewhere in that field, no doubt about it.”

NBC points out that Hoffa’s final resting place has been rumored to be everywhere from Giants Stadium to the Florida Everglades: “ For a guy who’s been dead since 1975,” they point out, “Jimmy Hoffa really gets around.”

* No they won’t. These stories happen every couple of years/ They never find him..
