U.S. Sec. of Education Says Philly Has “No Excuse” on Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has officially entered the fray regarding the Philly schools crisis. Asked by two of his most frequent antagonists–American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten and education activist Diane Ravitch–to step in last week, Duncan said this yesterday.

There’s no excuse for a public school system anywhere in the U.S. to be in this situation in the 21st century, and it’s even worse to see it in Philadelphia, the cornerstone of this great country and the cradle for our founding principles.

He also said he’d direct his staff to provide “any needed technical assistance to both the district and the commonwealth.” Technical assistance? Schools need cash, dude! Also–missing instruments! [Inquirer]
