Why Does Darren Walp Keep Shouting Racial Slurs at Country Music Shows?

Delco Daily Times:

Ridley Park’s Darren Walp may love country music, but after a second incident of allegedly shouting racial slurs in less than two months while attending a concert in Camden, N.J., the Camden County police made it clear they don’t like Walp.

The 33-year-old was arrested Saturday for an episode of bias intimidation. According to the police report, at about 3:30 p.m. Walp exited his red pickup truck at the intersection of Broadway and Morgan in Camden to retrieve a beer from a cooler in the back of his truck. Without provocation, he began screaming racial slurs at the driver of the vehicle behind him, an African-American male who had a small child in his car. According to the report, Walp challenged the victim to get out of his car, who instead drove away and found a Camden County Police Department officer nearby, providing a description of Walp and his vehicle.

“We never want to see this individual in the city of Camden again,” said Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson. “Therefore, I will ask the Susquehanna Bank Center to permanently ban this individual from their venue.”

A spokeswoman for LiveNation, the venue’s owner, said, “We will continue to collaborate with the Camden County police and other authorities, and we will work together to review our options.”

They charged Walp with bias intimidation, harassment, and disorderly conduct – the same charges filed against him June 22, when he was arrested after attending a Toby Keith concert at the center.

In that incident, Walp “climbed the fence of the private Royal Court residential complex near the concert venue and began waving a Confederate flag and shouting racial slurs at residents,” police said.
