Six Flags Great Adventure to Open World’s Tallest Drop Ride

New Jersey will soon have an amusement park ride to match their governor. Six Flags Great Adventure announced today that they will open Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, the world’s largest “drop ride,” in 2014. Set to stand at around 415 feet high, the ride will reach speeds up to 90 mph across a 41 story drop. That’s tall enough to see the Philly skyline 52 miles away on a clear day.

But, just in case you didn’t get how big that actually is, park historian Harry Applegate has a more Six Flags-centric description:

“You could stack the tallest major attractions from Great Adventure’s opening season on top of one another, including the Big Wheel, Log Flume, Runaway Train and Skyride, and you would still be more than 50 feet shy of Zumanjaro.”

Currently, the world’s tallest drop ride is the similarly named Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, which stands at 400 feet. Which, of course, proves that once again in America, if something gets boring, just make it bigger. [NBC]
