This morning someone cut a hole in a fence at a PECO substation in Holmesburg so that they could douse the equipment in gasoline and set in on fire. A fire at the same substation in August knocked out power to 20,000 PECO customers in Mayfair, Holmesburg and Tacony. A similar instance was discovered last week but police surrounded the area before the arsonist could light a fire or ignite a fuse, but not before he or she could slip away through a hole in the fence. Winter is ready to start early in Denver as the city expects to get nearly half a foot over the next two days. The system dumping powder on the Mile High City will make its way through the Midwest and be in our backyards by the end of the week. Philly should expect some rain—no snow—but high temperatures will dip into the 40s for the first time since April 1st. Dungeon-Case Victim in Texas Comes Forward, Led Police to Weston After Escaping. A woman has come forward alleging that Linda Ann Weston kept her locked in a closet in Texas for two weeks. She says that she escaped by kicking through the closet door and leaving the house through a window. She ran to a police station and led local police to Weston's home and even told about the people in the attic. Police knocked on Weston's door, but said they didn't see anything wrong and that there was nothing they could do. [Daily News]

Last week the internet was abuzz with news that Pat Croce was manning a team of divers in search of the body of Sir Francis Drake. Drake—a privateer—was buried at see after he died of dysentery and his crews were said to have scuttled and burned the ships to leave nothing behind for the Spanish. Capital Blue Cross now has a plan that includes pet insurance offered by Philly-based PetPlan. The company—founded by two Wharton grads from across the pond—electronically monitors those enrolling in the plan. Blue Cross gets a commission for each member that signs up for the voluntary service and employers won't be complaining because the premiums are covered by plan members.
