WATCH: Charlie Manuel Is Mad At His Team
I like it when coaches get mad, but not so mad that they commit verbal and physical violence against players and end up getting fired. So. This Charlie Manuel rant hits the sweet spot. He's 30 seconds from bursting into Yosemite Sam-style ragglefraggleCRAGGLE-type cursing.

Is It Time To Start Rebuilding The Phillies?
We're only a couple of weeks into the season, and yes, the Phillies have gotten off to an inconsistent start. But it time to start trading away our favorite players and start, finally, rebuilding the team—knowing that there will be no follow-up in this group to the (gulp) 2008 World Series championship that's (gulp) already five years in the past?
At ESPN, Dan Smyzborski says it's time to give up:
The Phillies aren't going to lose more games than the Astros, and certainly won't be in the running to pick first in the 2014 draft, but the team's recent dynasty is over.
Charlie Manuel Wants To Manage Phillies After This Year
It's long been assumed that this season will be Charlie Manuel's last with the Phillies—and there's been plenty of speculation that he might not even last the season if the team duplicates the horrid start it got during the 2012 season. In any case, a rebuilding season or two appear to be right around the corner; Manuel wouldn't want to stick around for that, would he?
Well, yes, as a matter of fact.
Manuel, who is in the final season of his contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, made it clear he wants to continue as manager beyond this year. Retirement plans haven't even
2013 May Be End of the Line for Phillies’ Charlie Manuel
One of the unofficial rules of sports is this: When you win a championship, you have to be grateful for five years. No grumbling even if everything goes to hell the next year, because you won the championship and who knows when things will be that good again, right? Well, by that measure, the 2013 season will be last year of Charlie Manuel's grace period after winning the 2008 World Series. Does that mean it's the end?
As a manager, he's as old school as they come, which is why so many question if today's game has simply passed him by.
Charlie Manuel Was at WWE Raw Last Night
A few years back, Philly Mag ran a piece about Charlie Manuel arguing he was a misunderstood idiot savant. Sniff all you want at his tongue-tied, backwater verbal stylings, Matthew Teague wrote, but there's zen here in this man.
Manuel tells the truth, and sticks to the essence: When a player performs poorly, Manuel tells him so. When someone performs well, likewise. His straightforward manner, regardless of stuttering or grammatical errors, stops the churn of guesswork in a player’s head. All those distractions go out — out into the black void — and all that remains is the game itself.
That's all
Phillies Name Ryne Sandberg Third Base Coach for 2013
A rightful heir emerges! Ryne Sandberg—the Hall of Fame second baseman who spent 2012 managing the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs—has officially been promoted and will be the third base coach for the Phils in 2013. The announcement comes just a day after the Phils finished their 2012 season and informed the public that first base coach Sam Perlozzo, bench coach Pete Mackanin, and hitting coach Greg Gross would not be joining the team for another season. Speculation that the moves were, in part, to make room for Sandberg on the club's roster began almost immediately. With one year left on Charlie
Should Phillies Replace Charlie Manuel?
Jimmy Rollins has already been benched for "lack of hustle." Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino are gone, traded to playoff contenders. The lowly Mets—the Mets!—ended up with a winning record at Citizens Bank Park this year. As the Phillies regroup for 2013, should manager Charlie Manuel return? Yes, he led the team to the World Series title in 2008, but that doesn't impress Josh Amareld: "Charlie has done such a poor job with the 2012 Phillies, the home sellout streak was lost," Amareld writes. "With the fans leaving, so does the money. Fans need to be shown the Phillies' organization
Shane Victorino Is Not Happy With a Delco Daily Times Editor
Shane Victorino didn't play for the Phillies on July 8th. He was scratched from the lineup by Charlie Manuel before the Sunday matinee started. Rob Parent—the sports editor at the Delco Daily Times—sent out a tweet about the incident.
As it turns out, that wasn't the case. Charlie Manuel defended Victorino at the team's press conference after the game and, recently, Shane Victorino took an opportunity to use a few, choice, four-letter words to express his disapproval.
That was my point. One person made a [bleepin’] false statement. That’s the problem with social media, and it pisses me off. It’s all over
Charlie Manuel Says Siri Doesn’t Know Baseball
Charlie Manuel Says Siri Doesn't Know Baseball. The Phils manager is immersing himself in new technology this season. He recently spent some time at the MLB Fan Cave reading tweets from Phils players and, we've learned, that he's been talking to Siri (he actually calls it "Sirius") on his iPhone this season. He says she doesn't know baseball, so she isn't much help to him. [Crossing Broad]
Sandusky Jury to Continue Deliberation. Less than a day after Jerry Sandusky's adopted son Matt released a statement through an attorney indicating that he was a victim of his father's alleged abuse, the
Ruben Amaro, Charlie Manuel and Phils Coaches Held a Three-Hour, Closed-Door Meeting
Before Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. held a closed-door meeting with Charlie Manuel and the rest of the Phillies coaches. For three hours, the group discussed how things are going (terribly) and what can be done moving forward. The meeting followed bad news about Freddy Galvis (suspended after a positive PED test), David Herndon (out for the season with Tommy John surgery), and Mike Stutes (who the hell knows what's wrong with his shoulder).
