Flyers Goalie Bryzgalov Doesn’t Like Philly, Does Like Stalin
Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear:
Ilya Bryzgalov can see the “logic” in Joseph Stalin’s actions and thought the former leader of the Soviet Union did what needed to be done to rebuild a country that was overrun with spies and criminals with guns.
Also, the Flyers’ goalie doesn’t like the oldness of Philadelphia — he likes “newer, cleaner” cities like Boston, Vancouver, and Dallas — though he does enjoy the cheesesteaks.
And he thinks there are too many people in America on welfare that don’t want to work.
The comments came in an interview with Russian sports site Championat. The praise
Comcast Getting Reimbursed for Shortened Hockey Season, And You Aren’t
The Flyers were pretty miserable this year, so maybe it's not such a big deal that a lockout truncated almost half the season. That said, it would have been nice to get back the cash you paid to (not) watch the team on TV. After all, the cable providers did.
Television distributors are being financially compensated for missed NHL games in this season shortened by labor problems, but hockey fans and other pay-TV subscribers won't see any of it. Neither the NHL nor TV distributors disclosed the financials in what the parties are describing as rebates, citing confidentiality agreements.
Comcast claims this
Check Out ESPN the Magazine’s Big Eric Lindros Profile
In 1998, ESPN the Magazine debuted with Eric Lindros, Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, and (ha) Kordell Stewart on its cover, representing the "NEXT" generation of superstars. 15 years later, the mag's anniversary issue has revisited the onetime Flyers star in a long profile. Much of it focuses on Lindros's own struggle with concussions, and the way professional sports leagues and their fans have changed in their ways of addressing brain injuries. Some memorable excerpts:
Turns out Lindros married a Quebecer (this was the guy who sacrificed a year of his career just to avoid playing for the Nordiques).

Don’t Beg the Eagles and Phillies for School Donations. Tax Them.
Chris Lehmann has the right idea, but he’s going about it the wrong way.
The good idea? It’s time to get Philly’s major pro teams—the Eagles, the Phillies, the Flyers, and the 76ers—to pitch in and help fund the city’s financially drowning school district. The problem? Lehmann, founding principal of the Science Leadership Academy, is asking nicely, using a petition at Change.org.
At Least Flyers Fans Don’t Do the Wave
I must admit, I was pretty intimidated. I was in hockey's mecca, home of the team with all the accolades: 24 Stanley Cups, 61 Hall of Famers, 17 retired numbers. The city that rioted after Rocket Richard's suspension. Even the team's name — Les Canadiens de Montréal — sounded weirdly intimidating in French. I'm a Philadelphian who barely speaks English correctly. A few days in Montreal and I still had no idea what was going on half the time, and everyone I met pronounced "Dan" with a soft-a. I was on another planet.
Did Bryz Nod Off or Not? The Flyers Sleepgate Scandal Rages On…
Yesterday, Crossing Broad and 97.5 FM reported that Flyers 'tender Ilya Bryzgalov was benched during Tuesday's game for falling asleep during a team meeting. The Flyers' denials came fast and furious, trumpeted by the team's own beat writers. Then, the Daily News's Frank Seravelli broke the story right back again, reporting that several team sources confirmed that Bryz did indeed snag some shut-eye in a team meeting.
Said one player: "Whether he was actually sleeping or not, no one knows for sure. It seemed like he may have been doing it to get a rise out of other players. I’m not
Hey Phils Fans, Don’t Be Mets Fans
It’s hard to believe, but in some people’s eyes, the Phillies organization has slid below the Eagles in the minds and hearts of Philadelphia’s fans. Just a few short years ago, the team couldn’t do anything wrong. Riding high after the 2008 title and playing to packed houses every night, the Phillies were infallible.
WATCH: Philly Sports Fans Need An Angel
The Cheesesteak, an up-and-coming comedy site here in Philadelphia, offers this bit of genius:
This is what happens when all four of your major pro teams miss the playoffs during the course of a year. There, there. It's not that bad, is it?
Wrong Color You Used: Lucasfilm Requests Color Change to Yoda’s Lightsaber on Bryzgalov’s Mask
We told you last week about Ilya Bryzgalov's awesome new Star Wars-themed mask for his turns in goal for the Flyers. Now an update from the folks at Crossing Broad: The mask has been corrected so that Yoda—who had been wielding a pink lightsaber—is now fighting with a green laser blade instead. (Pink blades are used by the evil Sith lords, like Darth Sidious.) "There were no bad intentions," the masks' designer said. "It was just a matching thing."
