Listen: Joe Biden Reads Letters About Gun Violence From Philly 3rd Graders

Vice-President Joe Biden recently received a set of letters from a classroom of third-graders from North Philadelphia. The topic was gun violence. Today, the White House released audio of Biden reading excerpts from the letters. Here is a sampling:

"Camilla says, 'I want to discuss with you why you want to stop gun violence. I think it's because you want less people passing away.'"

"Ishmael says, 'I heard you take care of gun violence. Maybe no guns at all, but the police can get safety guns. That will change the world."

"Jacob: 'You can go out on the stage and just say, I

Eastern PA University to Allow Guns On Campus

Yes, that's right. Eastern PA, not Western PA. Stereotypes be damned, Kutztown University is allowing gun owners with "compelling" personal safety rationale to bring their arms onto campus.

The revision, which took effect April 19, replaces a blanket prohibition of weapons on university premises with a policy allowing people with proper permits to carry weapons outside of buildings and events — in other words, on campus paths and grassy quads. But they need permission from campus police to bring weapons into academic buildings, dorms, dining halls or to events.

The Kutztown-based Raging Chicken Press, which broke the story, was none too pleased.

Get Ready for the 3-D Printed Gun

By now, there seems to be little doubt that Philly is a tech city.  We’re overflowing with geeks, GIS firms map out our future crime patterns, and we play Pong on the Cira Centre. We’re even a hotbed for the current holy grail of all things geeky: 3-D printing—thanks to the members of our ever-growing maker community like Hive76, NextFab Studios and the Department of Making and Doing.

So who in Philly will make a 3-D printed gun first? If they haven’t already, that is.

Ku Klux Klan Guy Screening Documentary at the Mutter Museum Tonight

First he was a Daily News Sexy Single. Then he was a guy on Chestnut Street dressed as a Klan member. And now, fresh off being named Essence Magazine's "Single Man of the Month," he's screening his new documentary tonight at the Mutter Museum. Here's a trailer of the film "Mothers of No Tomorrow," which like his Klan protest stunt, deals with violence in the African-American community. And like his Klan protest stunt, it is likely to confuse some people. (Wait for the football.)

Gun Control Rallies May Shut Down Morrisville Little League Games

Hey grownups Stop being idiots! You know what would be idiotic? Shutting down a Little League game in Morrisville this weekend so that you adults can have competing gun control rallies.

Morrisville Little League president Dan O'Connell said he's not taking a side — other than that he's unhappy that the events planned for Saturday at Williamson Park in Morrisville are large enough that authorities have asked to have games cancelled.

"It's enough for children to be impacted and hear this stuff on the news," said O'Connell. He said he learned of the rallies late last week.

What this situation calls for? A

Biden Has Secret Gun Control Plan Obama Doesn’t Know About

Joe Biden's going rogue. He's going on a whirlwind, nationwide tour to shame Senators into expanding background checks and gun trafficking laws. It's so badass and double-secret the President of the United States doesn't know about it.

Biden volunteered that he “hasn’t really discussed” his plans with Obama and plans to lead the gun control charge, according to a person who attended the meeting.

Said another person at the meeting in question:

“He was talking like he was going to be leading it, ” the law enforcement official said. “He didn’t mention any other senators in terms of leading the charge.”

That's our Joe.

Following Gun Vote, Pat Toomey Is Now More Popular Than Ever

So much for gun control being a political third rail. At least in Pennsylvania, where we cling to our guns, Senator Pat Toomey's recent, failed, efforts to strengthen criminal background checks have boosted his popularity to an all-time high. According to a Quinnipiac Poll released today, his approval rating stands at 48%-30%, and 54% of voters think more favorably of Toomey for the gun bill, versus 12% who like him less. The question that remains now is whether Toomey continues to hew to a more moderate path (he recently changed his mind on the Violence Against Women Act), or uses

Philly Police Say 10-Year-Old “Stickup Kid” Used Toy Gun

Yesterday, police released this video of what appeared to be a ten-year-old kid brazenly pointing a gun at the head of a young woman in North Philadelphia. 20 minutes later, a 14-year-old boy seems to have brandished it again, prompting a 911 call from the man he was aiming at. Skip to the 00:32 mark to observe the first incident.

Now police are reporting that was a toy gun (although they can't seem to locate it). That would explain the relative calm of the two stick-up 'victims' in the video. Later on, the 14-year-old with the backup proceeds to 'hold up'

NRA Gun Show in Harrisburg Won’t Actually Sell Guns

The NRA is sponsoring a gun show in Harrisburg...where it won't sell guns.

Vendors will be allowed to display firearms -- including AR-15s and other guns that promoter Reed Exhibitions would have banned from the now-defunct Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show.

But they'll stay behind the glass. The Great American Outdoor Show, as it's being called, is meant to replace Eastern, which the NRA pulled out of after it announced it wouldn't sell guns. After the NRA pulled out, the show fell apart. The NRA, and other groups boycotted it, saying the decision infringed upon Second Amendment rights. The show will take

Shred Our Enemies, Not Our Constitution

I’m exhausted. I’m tired of being tired. I’ve had my fill of manufactured crises and tragedy from our President, and I’m worn down by the actual crises and tragedies that seem to be happening almost monthly. The problem with exhaustion is, you want to give up. Bury your head. Surrender to the grind. But we cannot and we must not.
