Jimmy Rollins’ Night in Paris
Last night, the Jimmy Rollins Family Foundation's "Night In Paris," which benefited Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania, was held at the National Constitution Center. Jimmy Rollins and his wife, Johari, (looking gorgeous in a Theia dress) spoke of the importance of raising awareness that child abuse will not be tolerated. It's a taboo subject, and with education for parents and children, we can combat these actions that hurt families, Johari said.
Jimmy Rollins Benched for Not Hustling
Pat yourself on the back if you' didn't watch the Phillies game today. The Phils won 3-2, but, at this point, that hardly helps matters. Thursday's matinee against the Mets was a microcosm for the Phils 2012 campaign as Mike Baxter hit a lead-off home run off of Kyle Kendrick, Scott Hairston continued his bludgeoning of the Phils with a dinger in the second, and then Charlie Manuel yanked Jimmy Rollins from the lineup after the shortstop didn't hustle on a pop up that was dropped. Also, Ben Stiller wants Jimmy to know that lunch has been canceled this afternoon
HughE Dillon: Jimmy Rollins Takes the Phils Bowling
At the 7th Annual BaseBOWL Tournament (benefiting the Rollins Family Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation), Jimmy Rollins, here with wife Johari Rollins, talked about the children who have been touched by the funds raised at BaseBOWL events. He talked about the smiles on kids' faces as they attend Camp JRA (Juveniles Reaching Achievement), which is a week-long camp for kids ages 8-18 with arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. He enjoys the bond he shares with the kids, and every year he gets a gigantic group photo of the kids who benefited from the Jimmy Rollins Foundation. He said he's so proud of the work that went into it to give those kids a place to have fun and meet other kids like themselves.
The Dodgers Want Jimmy Rollins and, Basically, the Rest of the Phillies Who Were Here in 2008
Since the Dodgers were recently bought for $2 billion dollars, the rumor mill has been churning out all sorts of gossip involving the club. Many of those rumors have pulled the Phillies into the conversation. First—and most obvious—is that Los Angeles will be a suitable suitor for pending free agent Cole Hamels. Then, reports surfaced linking the Dodgers to Shane Victorino trade talks. Finally, on Monday evening, word got out that the Dodgers might also be interested in J-Roll, seeing as their starting shortstop is on the shelf and they've been platooning Juan Uribe and Luis Cruz (ick). Why don't
Phillies Roster Stands Out Amid Decline of Black Baseball Players
Only about eight percent of Major League Baseball players are African-American. In 2002, the Phillies had six black players on the roster. This year, they entered spring training with seven. Jimmy Rollins thinks that the decline in African-American Major Leaguers has something to do with the way sports are marketed. He says baseball is not a glamour sport. Though, he did participate in the league's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Program—an initiative created when MLB noticed the decline of African-American fans and players in the '80s—and attributes part of his interest in baseball to that. The Phils are one
Leave Jimmy Rollins and His Paternity Leave Alone
Sports fans are wrong about things an awful lot. They love players who don't deserve it and hate players who do. They come up with analyses of games and seasons totally at odds with what actually occurred. They question the heart and even masculinity of athletes with concussions and other debilitating injuries, demanding they "get the hell back out there."
Jimmy Rollins and Wife Have a Baby Girl
Freddy Galvis will shift over to his natural position at shortstop this evening as Jimmy Rollins is out of the lineup because his wife Johari gave birth to a baby girl last night. [Twitter]
Jimmy Rollins Is a Good Multitasker or Is Just Like Jim Kenney
Hey you guys, Jimmy Rollins really wants to point that the Jimmy Rollins Family Foundation is partnering with GoodChime! to help prevent child abuse. So much so, in fact, that he tweeted about it during the Phils opener today. That, or he's hip to Hootsuite or is just like councilman Jim Kenney and has someone else do it for him, but we highly doubt that he was tweeting while he was playing shortstop at PNC Park.
