Anti-MSNBC Organizers Hope for 60,000 Protesters at Comcast Shareholders Meeting

Via Fox News, the Hollywood Reporter lets us know that a tea party group is trying to mobilize 60,000 protesters to rally against MSNBC's liberal programming at next week's meeting of Comcast shareholders on May 15.

This week, 60,000 invitations were emailed to tea partyers in and around Philadelphia and word went out to about 4 million more nationwide that their services are needed beginning at 8 a.m. EST at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Perelman Theater in Philadelphia, where Comcast’s meeting is set.

“The news programs at NBC and MSNBC, run by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, reflect total agreement

Philly.com’s Racist Commenters Take Aim At Lurie’s New Wife

It's hard to say when the racism of Philly.com commenters crosses a line into actually being news, but Philly.com's own blogger, John Featherman—otherwise known as a perennially losing GOP candidate for local offices—decided to take offense at the racially charged commentary surrounding Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and and his new wife, Tina Lai, who is of Vietnamese heritage. Featherman's wife is Japanese, and he took some of the taunts personally:

Before Philly.com decided to pull the plug on comments about 7:30 p.m. last night, a few other choiceslurs came out. For those that remember 2 Live Crew’s song “Me So Horny,” one reader wrote, “She

Steelers’ Ryan Clark “Interning” With ESPN

If only ever ESPN intern got to appear on camera. Outspoken Steelers Safety Ryan Clark, whose career may be nearing its end, is currently some sort of intern with the Worldwide Leader and will pop in several segments on your TV screen this week. Said his boss: "I can't tell you how impressed I am about how proactive he has been with us." See what you can accomplish when you delete your twitter account? [SI]

Philly Education Reporter Leaves For National Gig

Benjamin Herold, who has doggedly covered the Philadelphia education beat for The Notebook and NewsWorks, announced today he's leaving local coverage and taking a national gig with Education Week:

Via the Dep't of Bittersweet Announcements: I'm leaving @newsworkswhyy & the #phillyeducation beat...to go cover #edtech for @educationweek!— Benjamin Herold (@BenjaminBHerold) April 23, 2013

Along with the Inky's Pulitzer-winning Kristen Graham, Herold has defined the ed beat in Philadelphia in recent years, pursuing stories about the likelihood of cheating on standardized tests during the reign of former (and late) Supt. Arlene Ackerman. That reporting helped pull the thread that held Philly's self-delusion together:

The Guardian Is Wrong: News Is Good For You

It’s probably no surprise that one of the most popular things on the Internet last week—in a week full of Boston bombings, Texas explosions, attempted poisonings, and an earthquake in China—was a long essay at The Guardian, called “News is bad for you—and giving up reading it will make you happier.

Tax Day Is Now Dick Morris Day as Failed Fox Pundit Makes WPHT Debut

Today, dearly departing for satellite radio Michael Smerconish has officially been succeeded by Dick Morris, the fired Fox News pundit who should be forever remembered for his ineptitude in the field of punditry. Dick will kick things off today from 2-6 p.m. at WPHT 1210 A.M. Call 610-668-2095 or 610-668-5868 to let him know how you feel. FYI: "Today’s topic: How Obama’s tax policies are destroying us!"

Inky Settles Grievance Over Reporter Reassignments

One of the last remaining battles—for now—has been settled between the company that owns Philly's two major daily newspapers and the union representing its journalists: Sources say that Interstate General Media and the Newspaper Guild have settled a grievance over last fall's reassignment of older reporters at the Inquirer to hardship posts in an apparent attempt to force their resignations and shed some of the higher salaries on the reporting staff. (You'll recall that Howard Shapiro, the Inky's longtime theater critic, took a buyout after being reassigned to cover South Jersey.) Interstate General said at the time that the moves

Here Are Some Farm Videos Pennsylvania Legislators Don’t Want You To See

Ever seen this video? PETA made it a few years back to document the conditions faced by animals being caged and harvested for their fur.

PETA and similar organizations make these kinds of videos all the time, all in an effort to encourage more Americans to take up a vegan, non-animal exploiting lifestyle. Sometimes they're successful, though it should be noticed: Most Americans aren't vegan.

Nonetheless, Pennsylvania legislators think they have a solution to all these ugly farming conditions: Outlaw the pictures.

NewsWorks reports:

Rep. Gary Haluska, R-Cambria, says the idea for the legislation came from farmers in his district who are concerned about

WPHT Fills Its Afternoons With Dick

Consider this: Dick Morris—the man who will replace Michael Smerconish as WPHT’s weekday afternoon host—is such a huge hack and has so little regard for empirical truth that he is no longer considered employable by Fox News.
