Chinks’ Name Change Is Changed; Is The Italian Market Next?
The Inquirer reports that Monday's official name-change of Chinks' steakhouse to Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop was met with much wailing and gnashing of teeth from Philadelphians who like their cheesesteak sandwiches "wiz wit"—the "wiz," in this case, apparently being a reference to the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Turns out a Joe's Steak tastes way better if it's heavily flavored with racial slurs instead of onions—and it's your stupid political correctness that's responsible for America declining into the kind of place where a man can't even insult Asians anymore, fer chrissakes. "Cracker Barrel hasn't had to change their

Ex-Dean of Northeast High School Turns Himself in for Having Sex with Student
Mark Preston Williams, the former Dean of Students at Northeast High School, turned himself in yesterday morning for having sex with a 17-year-old student. The school was notified of the allegations in February, at which point it transferred him to a location where students weren't present. Among the charges: institutional sexual assault of a student, an offense established in 2011 that made it illegal for a teacher to have sex with a student. It remains unclear when the incident(s) took place. [Philly.com]
Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews Wants You To Choose Its Next Billboard
Thus continues Goldenberg's Peanut Chews' neverending quest to stay hip.
Starting today through March 6th, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews will be hosting a Billboard Contest. For all you strong-jawed Peanut Chews fans, they’re asking you to create a headline of 10 words or less that ties the chocolate-peanut treat to its Philadelphia roots.
Big winner gets his or her slogan plastered on a billboard off I-95, near Goldenberg's Northeast Philly HQ. For some context on the company's various branding adventures, read my colleague Annie Monjar's piece "The Second Coming of Goldenberg's Peanut Chews." Below, for good measure, is one of their more recent spots from
Man Says Stripper Ruptured His Bladder During Dance
A Montgomery County man is suing Port Richmond's Penthouse Club after an on-stage incident reportedly forced him to have corrective surgery. Lansdale's Patrick Gallagher was out for a special night with the bros to commemorate his upcoming nuptials back in 2010. His bros were looking out for him and got him the special "bachelor's package" that includes an on-stage dance and extra attention from the club's ladies. Gallagher's lawsuit alleges that the night went terribly awry, though, when one of the strippers slid down the stripper pole and onto his abdomen with such force that it ruptured his bladder. He
Woman Says Fake Cops Pulled Her Over on I-95
A woman says that she was pulled over on I-95 near the Cottman Avenue exit in the Northeast on Wednesday morning by two men pretending to be police officers. She claims that two men were in a white Buick LeSabre or Ford Crown Victoria with flashing lights. When they pulled her over, she says they tried to drag her out of the car. They left when she put up a fight. [Philly.com]

Trial Rescheduled for Priest, Teacher Accused of Abuse
A trial has been re-scheduled for two men accused of raping the same boy at a Northeast Philadelphia parish in the late 1990s. The Rev. Charles Engelhardt and Bernard Shero, a former teacher at the parish school, were originally expected to face trial this week—but that fell through when a defense attorney reported two deaths in his immediate family. But their reprieve won't last long: Engelhardt and Shero are now expected to face a jury on Oct. 22. Former priest Edward Avery—already convicted in the same crime—is expected to take the stand as a prosecution witness. [AP]
