An Expert’s 10 Tips for Getting Through PHL Quickly
Want to cruise through the Philly airport? Of course you do! Since January, I've been through our local airport more than 30 times (mostly on business travel), so you could say I’ve got a little experience. Here, 10 ways to make a stay at PHL as short as possible.
1. Fly a lot. It’s true: It really is better for the one percent. Particularly when flying. And there’s no better way to travel comfortably than to just fly a lot. Particularly with one airline. When you’re a frequent flier you get to board and depart your plane before most others. You always get a space for your luggage. You often get the use of the airline’s lounge. If you need to change a flight, you’re accommodated, oftentimes without extra charges. And if you’re on standby, you’ll find your name moved to the top of the list.
JetBlue Begins Flights From PHL Today
At last, JetBlue has come along. The US Airways monopoly on trans-colonial northeastern city airline transportation has ended. Philly to Boston. Boston to Philly. Starting today. Fives times a day. Hooray.

PHL, Now Featuring Qatar Airlines
PHL may be having trouble transporting passengers to and from Scranton, but beginning in 2014, getting to Doha shouldn't be a problem. Next March, Qatar Airlines will commence flights out of PHL. Exactly how many destinations it'll fly to is yet unclear, but Qatar is far from just a regional airline serving the Middle East. QA also already flies out of five North American locations.
The more competition the better, when it comes to PHL's often monopolistic ways. But one thing does worry me.

Here’s One Way to Avoid Flying PHL This Summer
Looking for ways to avoid PHL this summer? Head to scenic Wilmington, Delaware! There, starting in July, at quaint New Castle County Airport, Frontier Airlines will begin flying to Chicago, Denver, Houston, and a couple cities in Florida. Just in time too, as Frontier is temporarily suspending all its newly instituted Trenton-Mercer flights this fall, due to maintenance work. (Trenton-Mercer is also axing its FAA control tower due to federal budget cuts, so be careful flying outta there anyways.) [Times of Trenton]
“Catch Me if You Can” Gone Wrong: Man Impersonates Pilot at PHL
Wednesday, a 61-year-old French guy boarded a Palm Beach-bound flight (paid ticket in hand) at PHL in full Air France uniform, marched up to the cockpit, and plopped himself in the pilot's seat, ready for takeoff. Eventually, the real pilot showed up, called bullshit and sent him back to his assigned seat, at which point he was removed from the plane and arrested. Almost as glamorous as this:

PHL Apparently a Great Airport for Hooking Up
There's a site called www.meetattheairport.com which looks about as shady as it sounds. Well, it has put out rankings for its top airports to "hook-up" in, based on amenities, size, and average delay time. And guess what? Philadelphia International Airport ranks #5 in the country! So, next time you to try to pick up chicks at Jamba Juice, just watch this instructional video from Will Ferrell on how best to do it. [Time]
No More Naked X-Rays: Airports to Remove Peep Show Scanners
To all those pervs scanning our naked bodies at the airport: get a new hobby. The TSA is pulling its contract with the agency that makes those big old flashy-thing X-Ray machines, because they apparently weren't even serving any discernable purpose. Hey better late than never, though. After all, only 130 million people have had their probably radioactive bodies looked up and down by strange, uniformed people. [Bloomberg]
PHL Baggage Handler Gets Probation for Smuggling Drugs
A baggage handler at Philadelphia International Airport has been sentenced to 36 months probation for smuggling drugs on U.S. Airways flights. For 10 years, the baggage handler had been hiding marijuana on Bermuda-bound flights. He was caught when he was spotted loading luggage onto a plane while he was off-duty in 2010. That afternoon, everything at PHL came to a grinding halt and the national media picked up on the incident. The subsequent investigation uncovered the drug ring. [U.S. Immigration and Customs]
6 Myths About Philadelphia International Airport
I travel a few times a month for business, which means I’m a frequent visitor to the Philadelphia International Airport. It’s a good airport and, in my opinion, managed pretty well. But beware. There are a few myths about the airport, so I'll set the record straight.
Federal Court Rejects Appeal of $6.4 Billion PHL Expansion Project
Tinicum Township filed a petition for a review of the $6.4 billion expansion project planned for the Philadelphia International Airport. Tinicum's petition urged the court to put a pin in the project, citing inadequate environmental analysis conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration. On Wednesday, a federal court of appeals judge read a decision stating that, "technical errors alleged by Tinicum do not render the FAA's air quality analysis arbitrary or capricious."
