Questlove Is Very Unhappy ABC Canceled Happy Endings

Questlove is rightly celebrated for having extremely broad tastes—the fact that he's not a snob about music, say, is what has made The Roots' run on Jimmy Fallon such a huge success: Without the band's ability and willingness to play along with all of Fallon's musical hijinks, the show wouldn't be nearly as entertaining as it is.

Still, there's nothing more fun than Questo's commentary on modern sitcoms:

wait... @happyendingsabc got cancelled???!!!!!!!!! #StartsRiot— Questlove Jenkins (@questlove) May 13, 2013

Which, to be fair: He's right! Happy Endings was awesome! It's just that I always assume that Questlove is too busy taking epic SEPTA

Questlove’s “Strange Craving To Ride SEPTA”

Questlove has a free-flowing interview in the newest edition of Esquire magazine that contains some interesting nuggets. (He remembers the day of the MOVE bombing in West Philly as the same day his parents made him throw out a Led Zeppelin album for fear of devil-influenced "backmasking" lyrics. You could see how both would be traumatic.) He also told how a trip to a storage unit turned into a four-hour tour of the city via SEPTA:

QL: I was looking for baby photos. I found them. I was gonna go back, but then I just had this strange craving to ride

It’s Official: Fallon Gets Tonight Show. Now What About The Roots?

The New York Times reports: "NBC plans to announce on Wednesday its plan to install Mr. Fallon as the show’s sixth host at the conclusion of the network’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia. NBC also is to confirm reports that it plans to shake up the axes of the television industry by moving the show from its longtime home in Los Angeles to its birthplace, New York."

Which leaves one question:

Questlove, Stephen Starr Make Philly’s Coolest Food … In New York

Our colleagues at Foobooz report:

Philadelphia’s Questlove and Stephen Starr are joining forces to open Hybird, a fried chicken, dumplings and cupcakes stand in New York’s Chelsea Market. Look for the kiosk to open in early May.

Questlove has been toying with starting a food operation for a couple of years now, having fed drumsticks to gleeful Feastival eaters and Night Market VIPs. But now there’s something concrete and we have to wonder, can a Philadelphia location be far behind?

We hope not.

You’ll Never Guess Philly’s Sole Representative on TIME’s “Twitter 140″ (Yes You Will)

And the award goes to...D.A. Seth Williams! For his fearless following of pornographic twitter accounts! Oh, nope, sorry that was just me dreaming. The real winner of Time's annual Twitter power rankings, of course, was Mr. Questlove:

Questlove tweets at a frenetic pace, whether he’s promoting his 9-5 gig on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, geeking out over drum gear or sharing Instagrams of his solo DJ sets and performances with The Roots. His enthusiasm is infectious.

There's something about Time magazine gushing about cool Twitter feeds that neutralizes any coolness they may have had. Time also makes the grievous error of

Now that Fallon’s Taking Over for Leno, Will the Roots Perform on the Tonight Show?

The Times reports that Jimmy Fallon will replace Jay Leno at The Tonight Show, maybe/probably/don't trust Leno around Fall 2014. Which means one thing for sure: the show's moving back to New York, where it began in 1954. And it also raises the vital question: Will the Roots still be Fallon's house band? I hope so, because I'm about as ready for the Kevin Eubanks era to end as I am for Leno to finally step down. Note: a colleague alerts me to the fact that Kevin Eubanks hasn't been Leno's bandmate for like 3 years. Somebody's been watching! Maybe that

Questlove (who held down  is your narrator and guide, and you'll ride his steady ship from 30 Rock in New York City to Manchester, Tennessee, where the epic sounds of the concert competed mightily with the aroma of pot and porta-potties that welcome revelers to Bonnaroo.

Questlove Reveals Another Justin Timberlake Album Coming Soon

Philly's Questo offers a defense of Justin Timberlake's new album, and a preview of his next:

Over the weekend, Roots dummer and Justin Timberlake collaborator Questlove took to the online forum that he co-founded, Okayplayer, and wrote “spoiler alert. 20/20 Vol 2 comes out in nov.”  His explanation for the “20/20″ title fits, too, writing: “(10 songs now…..10 songs later= 20 vision).”

Questlove’s comment was in response to another commenter’s opinion of the critical Times review, which said called “The 20/20 Experience “an album of largely inconsequential beauty, showing Mr. Timberlake as an artist with no incentive to innovate, making this primarily a

The Five Things Questlove Misses Most About Philly

Feelings were hurt when lifelong Philadelphian ?uestlove moved to New York in March (to the financial district, no less). It's safe to bury the hatchet now that he's compiled a list of the things he misses most about his hometown. In this order: Driving up and down Broad Street late at night; listening to his 70,000 records; debating Ricci's vs. Merlini's hoagies; Tastykake krimpets; and his Saturday night DJ residency at Fluid. Not mentioned: his affection for "the urine stench of the subway or the el." Good news on the krimpets, Quest: Tastykakes have already begun taking over the shelf

Questlove Remembers First Time He Heard “Rapper’s Delight”

In Rolling Stone's countdown of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time, Philadelphia's Questlove offers his memory of hearing "Rapper's Delight" for the first time.

Me and my sister, Donn, were sneaking a listen of the local soul station while washing dishes when an army of percussion and a syncopated Latin piano line came out of my grandma's JVC clock radio – what appeared to be Chic's "Good Times." How was I to know that my world would come crashing down in a matter of 5, 4, 3, 2 . . .
