WATCH: The Rocky Training Montage. With Puppets.
Some truth: There are few days that go by that somebody on the Internet doesn't post video of their jog up the "Rocky" steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It's a cliché, but one that's apparently good for the city's tourism dollars, so hey: Who's complaining.
Still, it's fun to see an original take on the "Rocky training montage" genre of Internet videos. Like this one. With puppets. And an alternate ending.
“Rocky” Musical Officially Coming to Broadway
Let another round of "Yo!" jokes commence. Rocky das Musikal, apparently a smash-hit in Hamburg, is officially slated for the U.S.A., and we're not talking some off-Broad Street theater, either. The stage adaptation is slated to hit Broadway's Winter Garden Theater in February 2014 (that venue has housed Mamma Mia since 2001; I guess it's time for another 70s-era nostalgia-trip).
Before the news was official, the New York Post reported that the play could cost as much as $30 million to put on, making it one of the most expensive ever. One of the show's producers disputed that figure, saying it
(A) Stallone to Play (A) Rizzo in New Biopic
It's a veritable family affair! Playboy Harry Jay Katz has bought the rights to Sal Paolantonio's Rizzo biography, and his son David Bar Katz, whose Wikipedia page drops more names than it has any right to, will write and direct. Meanwhile, Frank Stallone will play former Fire Commish Joe Rizzo, and is begging his own brother Sly to play Joe's brother Frank. Got it? [Daily News]
Rocky’s House Can Be Yours, Unless This Rocky Enthusiast Buys it First
Friday it was revealed that Rocky's southwest Philly rowhome (the one he buys in Rocky II with winnings) was being sold for $139,000. Forget Rocky hats, hoodies, gloves, VHS's, whatever. Would that not be the ultimate collector's item? Thats what one mega-fan appears to be thinking.
Felice Cantatore, author of the motivational book "Rocky Spirit: The Rocky Balboa Connection to Success," says he is preparing to place a bid on the home, which went on the market last week. "In my mind, I always wanted to own a piece of the film, never thinking that something like this would become available" Cantatore said.
An Adrian Mural for South Philly?
Why is there no Adrian mural in Philadelphia? Everybody from McNabb to Frank Rizzo to these strange M.C. Escher nurses has got one. Is she not an icon?! Philebrity's on it, arguing that Adrian (nee Adrianna Pennino) is the indisputable, lightweight, better half of the Balboa couple. "Rocky is nothing without Adrian. But Adrian was always something without Rocky." The catch: The occasionally artistically challenged Mural Arts may not do justice to Talia Shore's haunting, delicate features. [Philebrity]

“Rocky” the Musical Debuts…in Germany
The item surfaced last week, but "Rocky" the Musical isn't coming stateside anytime soon, so we all have plenty of time to absorb the news. Despite the personal advocacy of Sylvester Stallone, and a spate of Tony Award nominees on board, nobody on Broadway wanted to produce the show. So for now, it lives in Hambug, Germany, where the audience loves clapping along, and wishes there was more fighting. Rocky himself is glad the show exists in some form, though he can't make out what anyone is saying. "'All I understand is when Rocky says ‘Yo,’ ” Mr. Stallone said." Pretty

Sly Stallone Shares a Hospital Room With Arnold Schwarzenegger
Rocky and the Terminator both underwent recent shoulder surgeries. Yesterday, Schwarzenegger tweeted a picture of the two side-by-side in hospital beds. The only thing that would make this more ridiculous is if we found out that Steven Seagal took the picture. [TMZ]
Tim Tebow Thinks He’s Rocky
Ray Didinger recalls a conversation he had with Tim Tebow back at the 2009 Maxwell Club Dinner when America's newest obsession was accepting an honor as the nation's top college football player. Tebow mentions how much he loves Rocky. He says that he watched it all the time growing up and identifies with Sly's protagonist. So, if Tebow is Rocky, then who's Mickey? John Fox? Josh McDaniels? Urban Meyer? [CSN]
Rick Santorum Looks for Rematch in New Hampshire
After losing the Iowa caucus by a margin of eight votes, former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum is looking forward to a second shot at Mitt Romney in New Hampshire. When asked if he felt like Rocky Balboa, Santorum indicated that he was anxious for a rematch as he and Romney vie for the Republican candidacy. Interest seems to be spiking as the New Hampshire primary approaches, but there's no way that the fourth installment (Louisiana caucuses) is half as interesting as Rocky IV—Dolph Ludgren won't be there.
