Teenagers Can’t Text and Cross the Street at the Same Time

A new report from Safe Kids Worldwide indicates that kids and teens, aged 10-19, are the most at risk for pedestrian accidents. This is a new trend because, historically, younger children between the ages of five and nine were more likely to be involved in an accident. Researchers attribute the changes to texting and walking or talking and walking. They suggest that the older kids are more preoccupied while walking around, thus increasing the likelihood that they're involved in such an accident.

Yet among those 16 to 19, the actual number of injuries spiked 25 percent for the period 2006

Massive Pothole Causes Eight-Mile Backup on the Northeast Extension

You're probably going to want to avoid the Northeast Extension today. A massive sinkhole opened up on the southbound side where the Turnpike crosses North Wales Road (mile marker 24.8) just as the morning commute was heating up. It's reportedly four feet wide and four feet across. Crews are on the scene working to repair the road in time for the afternoon rush hour. For now, though, it caused at least an eight-mile backup. Report Shows Philadelphians Suck at Driving

The eighth annual Allstate America's Best Drivers Report indicates that Philadelphia is the 190th on the list of cities with safe drivers. An average driver in Philly gets into an accident every 6.1 years and is more than 64 percent more likely to get into a collision than the national average. We're convinced the findings are a residual effect caused by all of the Jersey drivers coming across the river. [Allstate]

Can we have a brief conversation about July 4th being on a Wednesday? We're all getting jipped. Also, this is a reminder that the city will be "Occupied" by the best Occupiers our country has to offer. But, hey, Queen Latifah is performing, so we're all good. Is it happy
