No More Naked X-Rays: Airports to Remove Peep Show Scanners
To all those pervs scanning our naked bodies at the airport: get a new hobby. The TSA is pulling its contract with the agency that makes those big old flashy-thing X-Ray machines, because they apparently weren't even serving any discernable purpose. Hey better late than never, though. After all, only 130 million people have had their probably radioactive bodies looked up and down by strange, uniformed people. [Bloomberg]
PHOTOS: 30th Street Station Restrooms Are Disgusting
Every time I walk through 30th Street Station after a trip to New York or D.C., I feel giddy. The cavernous Art Deco interior, the classical columns, the flurry of transients scuttling across my city’s gorgeous travel hub—the thrill of urban transit doesn’t get more palpable than that.
The Times’ Guide to 36 Hours in Philadelphia

So naturally, the folks in Manhattan are now offering a guide on how to spend 36 hours right here in Philadelphia. Its recommendations? Sleep over at the Alexander Inn, grab chicken and donuts at Federal Donuts, have a nice libation at Johnny Brenda's, and take a tour of the new Barnes. Doctor Drops $750 on Cab From Philly to Boston During Hurricane Sandy
Dr. Sujatha Balija—a pathologist in London visiting the United States for the annual meeting of the American Society for Clinical Pathology—was pretty much shit out of luck when she was in the Philly 'burbs when Hurricane Sandy hit. Balija had planned to be in Boston by Tuesday night for the Wednesday morning conference, but trains, buses and planes were all immobilized thanks to the superstorm. So, she did what any of us would have done and dropped $750 on a taxi. She called Rosemont Taxicab Co. and had a cabbie pick her up just 30 minutes later. It took eight
Bushkill Falls: When City Folk Meet Nature
Sunday was expected to be in the mid-60s, with clear skies, and fall leaves at their peak. We decided to go to Bushkill Falls for the day. The only problem: so did 1,924 other people.
VIDEO: Dancing Guy Kills It on Jersey Bus
Here in Philly, we're not used to enjoying our bus rides. Trips on SEPTA typically include an old lady asking if you wipe your own ass, mothers abusing their children, people spitting on each other, or gangsters shooting up the bus. In Jersey, though, bus rides seem to be a little more enjoyable, at least for one guy who absolutely KILLS IT with his dance moves. He's got his headphones in and doesn't care at all who or what is going on around him. Stick around for his jump at the 1:17 mark. Also, is there any way that he
Gas Prices Expected to Get Lower as Year Ends
We're pretty sure you're sick of getting mugged by gas pumps every time you need to fill up the tank. Things aren't great, but they're getting better. While the average price of gas is still expected to be much higher in 2012 than it was in 2011, fueling up should cost you less as the year winds down. Projections suggest that the national average should drop to $3.40-3.50 a gallon by election day and will likely drop some more by the time the holidays roll around. Happy savings. [Inquirer]
Airplane Tire That Fell From Sky and Hit a Car on the Schuylkill Was Actually Just a Truck Tire
On Monday morning, reports surfaced indicating that an airplane tire had fallen out of the sky and landed on a car on the Schuylkill near the University Avenue exit. Then, there were reports of a second tire falling from the sky and putting a hole in the roof of a Grays Ferry building. Turns out they're just truck tires. You're not in Donnie Darko. This isn't Breaking Bad. The sky isn't falling. [NBC Philadelphia]
Michael Vick Gets Flat Tire, Gives Speech to Maryland Gymnastics Class
Philadelphia's starting(?) quarterback was on his way home to Virginia with his family when he got a flat tire in Maryland. Luckily, he was right across the street from an auto body shop. As the owner and workers at the shop tried to get Vick's Lexus off the highway and into their lot, a woman came out from the adjacent Twisters Gymnastics to see who was blocking the driveway to her gym. When she was told it was Vick, she invited the whole family inside and the QB spoke to about 100 youngsters about working hard to succeed while the
