The 5 Weirdest Tidbits from Will Smith’s Long New York Mag Interview
This week's New York magazine features an extended interview with Will Smith and his 14-year-old son Jaden, with whom he's starring in M. Night Shyamalan's new flick After Earth. What transpired was a surprisingly bizarre session in which the two Smiths came across super-earnest and self-important about their vaguely Scientological New Agey perspective on the world. Here are the five most eyebrow-raising moments of the exchange, broken up into chapters, for your reading pleasure.
Chapter 1: Patterns
Will: I’m a student of patterns. At heart, I’m a physicist. I look at everything in my life as trying to find the single equation, the
Will Smith and His Son Rap “Fresh Prince” and Bradley Cooper Was There Too
This is sort of a perfect storm of vaguely Philadelphia-related things that I think is greater than the sum of its parts. If Will Smith never tires of rapping "The Fresh Prince" theme, I guess neither shall we tire of hearing him rap it. The highlight is not, however, the musical stylings of Smith and his son Jaden, but the confused and slightly terrified expression plastered on Bradley Cooper's face. Michael Douglas was around too, we hear. How the BBC managed to get all these people in a room singing and dancing is question for another day.

Watch Will Smith Spontaneously Rap ‘Summertime’ on Letterman
Will Smith was on Letterman promoting some movie last night when he launched into an impromptu rendition of his classic "Summertime," set to Kool & the Gang's "Summer Madness," which I totally didn't recognize as Kool & the Gang's "Summer Madness" until a colleague educated me.

Will Smith Sings “Fresh Prince” Theme Song for All-Girls School
Needless to say, pandemonium ensued. It's somewhat remarkable, by the way, that more than 15 years after the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" aired its last episode, hundreds of little British girls at the St. Martin's School in London know every word of the theme song.

Note to Downton Abbey producers looking for a fusty, scheming maid character to replace the departed O'Brien: see unamused matronly chaperone at the very end of the clip.

Will Smith’s Brother-in-Law Arrested on Drug Charges
Huffington Post reports on federal drug charges against Will Smith's brother-in-law Dee Lawrence Downs, married to the actor's younger sister Ellen.
Downs was the target of a sting operation, where unbeknownst to him he was dealing with confidential sources working with the DEA. Upon arrival in Miami, Downs was driven to Latin Bohemia Grill in Coral Gables where he met with the two confidential sources, and allegedly said he was looking for someone he could trust to move "product" every month, and claimed he had contacts in South Philadelphia who were able to move the "product" quickly and in large amounts.

We Suddenly Can’t Wait For Willow Smith’s Memoirs of Childhood With Work-Crazed Will Smith For a Dad
Son-of-Philly Will Smith has long been known for his relentless work ethic, but apparently it's burning out some members of his household. During an appearance at Temple University over the weekend, Smith reported that his 12-year-old daughter, Willow—she of "Whip My Hair" fame—had bowed out of an Annie remake for what appears to be entirely sensible reasons:
Willow was supposed to be doing 'Annie,' we got Jay-Z to do the movie, got the studio to come in and Willow had such a difficult time on tour with 'Whip my Hair' and she said, 'You know Daddy, I don't think so' and
VIDEO: Will Smith Performs “Summertime” With Doug E. Fresh at Gabrielle Union’s Birthday Party
The Fresh Prince and Doug E. Fresh were in Miami for Gabrielle Union's 40th birthday bash and they put on a little show for everybody. Smith performed "Summertime" and the theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He also freestyled while Doug E. Fresh beat-boxed because all famous people know each other. Illuminati. We guess that's just a little better than the typical over the hill party and getting the waiters at Chili's to clap and sing you "Happy Birthday." [Yahoo!]
Will Smith’s Movie Career, Ranked
Will Smith is the biggest movie star of a generation. Philadelphians, myself included, won't let the world forget that Smith, Philly's own ultra-celebrity, grew up at the end of SEPTA's R5 line. He's made albums and starred in television shows and helped to launch the careers of his children. He even started a production company named after his old neighborhood, Overbrook. At the beginning of the summer of 2012, Smith returned to the big screen for a third installment of the Men in Black franchise. He spent a portion of the season filming locally for the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film After Earth, which also stars Smith's son Jaden. Smith's return revitalized discussion about his box office prowess and acting chops. So, I set out to rank every feature film Smith has ever starred in. And yes, Wild Wild West is the worst.
Guantanamo Bay Prisoners Love Them Some Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (They’re Bored With Harry Potter)
Prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay are sick and tired of the same, boring Harry Potter stories. The books have, basically, become paperweights in the prison's library as the detainees held at the interrogation camp in Cuba have decided they'd prefer to watch episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air instead. The librarian at the facility said that the show has become a hit amongst the prisoners and that he went ahead and ordered all six seasons for them. So, the prisoners might be a threat to the safety of Americans, but at least we know they've got good taste
