Don’t Miss It: Whiskey Week

A great reason to head to West Philly

If we’ve got Philly Beer Week and if we have the Philadelphia Whiskey Festival, why not have Philly Whiskey Week, I ask you? Fortunately, one of my favorite bartenders in the city has taken it upon himself to do just that. Kevin James Holland runs a strange little bar in West Philly known as Fiume (pronounced fee-ooh-may). It’s above the popular Ethiopian spot Abyssinia and is always filled with a good mixture of West Philly types. (I once sat next to a gal with a bunch of bird feathers in her hair and a very long hunting knife on her waist). Anyway, Kevin is a big fan of whiskey and always has an excellent variety at the bar, but he’s gone a bit crazy this week and brought in fifty-two – yes, fifty-two – different labels. There will be whiskey cocktails, whiskey flights, half-priced whiskey half-shots, and a general feeling of whiskey happiness all around through this Sunday.
