Daryl Metcalfe Calls for Impeachment of Official Who Issued Gay Marriage Licenses

The bigoted state representative says if the Montgomery County official's move "wasn't so wrong it would be laughable."

PennLive.com reports that bigoted State Representative Daryl Metcalfe is calling for the impeachment of Bruce Hanes, the Montgomery County register of wills who defied state law this week by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. From Metcalfe:

It’s not legal … Our laws are very clear about what marriage is. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Anything that that courthouse issues to anyone other than a man and a woman would not be valid in Pennsylvania. The individual doing so is committing an act of lawlessness. It’s outrageous to see a locally elected official believing he has the ability to set state policy like this from a local county office. If it wasn’t so wrong it would be laughable.

You have an individual who is charged with carrying out the law of Pennsylvania and this individual breaks the law. … Ultimately, I think there might be an impeachment procedure. The Legislature could remove this individual from office for violating the law.

In case you’ve forgotten, Metcalfe has made it a personal mission to snuff out any form of same-sex marriage rights in the state of Pennsylvania, going so far as drafting legislation that not only solidifies Pennsylvania’s same-sex marriage ban, but outlaws civil unions and domestic partnerships, too. He even says he is in the process of drafting up a resolution that would impeach Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who recently said she would not defend the state’s same-sex marriage ban in a recent ACLU lawsuit against Pennsylvania. Metcalfe’s defense?

“I think breaking the law is worthy of impeachment,” he said. “Her duty is to defend the law. By her example this Montgomery County official felt emboldened to violate the law also.”

He basically wants to nix anything that supports marriage equality in Pennsylvania. So be careful, he may start trying to impeach you soon, too!
